What's up

2 min read
Hey all! If you're like me, and you've been a part of the deviant art community for a while, you find the words devaint and deviation to take on a meaning of their own. They come to represent community, a place of inspiration and, let's be honest, escapism. But lately I was reminded of the original definition of the word.
Deviate ~ [verb dee-vee-eyt]: to depart or swerve, as from a procedure, course of action, or acceptable norm
The danger of being very active in a community is losing your individuality of expression. So don't make art because you think someone else will like it, or because you wish your art style was like someone else's. Make art because you want to make art, and because your ideas have worth all of their own.

Got my paws on a new camera today! It's nothing fancy, just a Canon 450D with a 18-55mm lens. But this is good news for me as I've been stranded without a camera for several weeks and have been going a little stir-crazy. Excited to get out and put this new picture-maker to the test - which means more stock images will be on their way in the days to come.

I am also trying out a Core membership for the first time since I joined DA five years ago. Enjoying the extra freedom to be a bit more creative with my profile and make my stock a little more accessible to you all! I hope you enjoy the change as much as I do.

Keep creating, Deviants!

Hey all. If you haven't had a chance to check out my new stock photos, here's a sneak peek. Notice a theme? That's right, it's spring in Australia!

While many of you lovely deviants
in the northern hemisphere are packing away the summer wardrobe and searching for your winter woolies, in the land down under we are cracking out the shorts, mowing the lawn and scooping leaves out of the pool, ready for the scorching temperatures of summer. Some of us are sandbagging our homes to hold flash floods at bay, but thankfully my hometown has escaped the worst of the extreme weather. So if you're me, you're out with the camera, dodging rainstorms and stalking the best of spring's wonders to shoot.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a tiny nest built in a rosebush. After a slow-motion fight with the thorns, I was able to get an eyeball over the rim and beheld a minute, black-and-white speckled egg. A baby willy-wagtail in the making. Good news, considering this particular brand of bird is furiously territorial and will kick up a din when danger looms. That means, if you hear a wagtail going nuts, watch your step; there's a snake on the move.

And no, I don't have any snake photos. Not yet ;)

How's the weather in your hometown?

Hey all you legendary voters! Wanted to say a huge thank you very much for taking the time to like my entry in the recent Snaps of SA Photography Competition .

I must say I was shocked to get the phone call saying I had placed third and was off to Adelaide for a photography seminar. The presenter, Ken Duncan, is a legend in the field of Australian Landscape Photography. It was a fantastic experience to hear his tricks of the trade. I plan to put what I learned to good use producing better quality stock for you!
Another presenter on the day was Rob Mulally
, a photographer who captures stunning and surreal images for a social media platform. You can check out his gallery here, on Instagram. It's guaranteed to inspire you!

Finally, thanks again for your support. I will be honest I did not expect such a response from the online community, but it's amazing to know that you can impact my life in such a real way. Bless you!

Lately I've been thinking on how much I enjoy the art that so many of you come up with. I might post a stock photo, but it's your devious imagination that makes it fly. If you're a stock artist or manipulator sometimes its good to chew on some new art to get your creativity flowing. Get inspired by this Feature Five and don't forget to check out the artists behind the art!

Lightning Tree Precut by Stockopedia =  by :iconwaltree: Waltree Is it a beast? Is it a building? It's not a dragon, but 'Snail on the Way Home' is likely to make you chuckle.

That's all for this feature. Stay tuned for the next Feature Five (it could be you!).

Attention all my lovely watchers and stock users!
Got a spare ten seconds on your hands to help me out?
I've entered a photography competition at Lifefm.net and it turns out I'm doing way better than I expected. In fact, I'm currently coming 3rd out of 70+ entries, which is nuts. I would be most grateful if you were to take a moment to pop over to
Snaps of SA Competition and click 'like' on my photo.
It looks like this:  Sunset Reflection Stock 1 by Stockopedia an unedited, unfiltered, uncropped sunset taken in rural South Australia.
